Another Straw Hat CONFIRMED! subtitles

- [Narrator] Hello, and welcome to the Grand Line Review.Your source for everything One Piece. And today we are going to be discussingsome rather intriguing and/or shocking news.I mean, I call it news. But in reality, this information made its way aroundthe internet last week, but I'm sure that many of you have yet to hearthat we have confirmation on a certain factorthe fan base had been vigorously debatingever since the very dawn of One Piece, which has resulted in the implicationthat there is indeed one final Straw Hat memberleft to be recruited.Yes, that means one more after Jinbei. But if you're new or more casually associatedwith One Piece, I want to give you some backgroundon this because new Straw Hatsare a pretty consistently hot topicin the online fan base with almost every major new characterbeing introduced automatically, being submitted as a candidate for nakama. And speaking of, I would like to submit you, dear viewers, as a candidate to become our nakamaby subscribing to the Grand Line Reviewand joining the Grand Fleet, which will also grant you regular One Piece contentuploaded straight into your YouTube feed.A fairly superb author in my humbleand not-at-all bias opinion. But in recent years, this kind of discussionhas become a bit more contentiousand it all has to with a statementthat Luffy made in the very first chapter of One Piece.Where after dispatching the ever pesky Lord of the Coast,he seemingly, arbitrarily declared that"First thing's first.I've got to get a crew.I think about 10 men should do," which had rhymes, and that line has been taken as an indicatorof when submissions to join the Straw Hats will close.A core crew of 10 and anyone elseis more or less destined to becomean associate of the Straw Hats, such as the Grand Fleet or the various kingdomsthat Luffy has made alliances withover the course of the series. The problem with Luffy's statement here though,is that this very clear number of 10,is actually far less than clearbecause it was always very ambiguousas to whether or not Luffy was including himselfwithin that total. But let's forward now roughly two decadesto a release of One Piece magazine, which, courtesy of a translationfrom YonkouProductions on Twitter, answers one of the age old inquiries from the fan base."One Piece Magazine reveals that Luffyisn't included in with regards to wanting 10 crewmateswhich means there's one more cremate to joinsince there are 9 crewmates excluding Luffy currently."And very importantly, as I stated before, yes, this does include Jinbei.Under the Luffyless structure, he would be the ninth member, which would all but confirmthat even in this exceptionally late stage of One Piece,we still have one more primary protagonist to collect.Which, you would think, we've already met by nowand I think we do have a fairly good ideaof who that may be.However before we get to that,I do want to tackle the inevitable argumentthat will come up, which is that we shouldn't be readingtoo much into this statement made in 1997by a cartoon rubber man.Meaning that Luffy is a unreliable source of informationand not everything that comes out of his infinitelywide mouth can be taken as a given. With the except of the whole becominga Pirate King thing, I guess. But I would disagree. If Luffy was a real person, then sure.We could probably very easily dismiss this statement, and most of the statements. However, he is a fictional constructand regardless of the intelligenceand reliability of his character, statements like this are madeto convey information to the audience. We aren't a bunch of voyeurs peeking in on this worldlike a reality TV show, and everything said in One Piecegoes on to serve a double purpose, and at all times is structured towardsgiving new information to audience. So it should be no surprisethat this is one of those moments. This is not just Luffy dreaming on his own privately,it's Eiichiro Oda directly speakingto readers about his plans.Whether or not those plans have changed is another matter, however given that One Piece magazinehas felt the need to address this specific statementafter complete silence on the matterfor the entire history of the series.Well, that tells me that we should be taking thisas a very strong hint, if not outright confirmationthat we can expect another Straw Hat.Otherwise, why bother drawing attention to it?I mean, I guess it could be a sort of deliberate attemptto subvert expectations, but One Piece doesn't really do that,at least in this sort of way.I guess I'd argue that Ace's deathwas a pretty huge subversion of expectationsbut at the same time, there wasn't an official statementin One Piece media claiming that he would survivethe Paramount War to begin with.Which is a very roundabout way of saying,I believe Luffy/Oda's words hereevery bit as much as when Luffyproudly declares that he will become the Pirate King. But that does leave us wondering, who this 10th and final Straw Hat will be?And in my estimation, there are only two reasonable choices. Both of whom have some very strong evidenceto support one another,as well as a third arguable candidatebut one that I'm not personally too sold on.And you know what, let's start with the latterand get her out of the way because it's Tama. And just hear me out herebecause it isn't as crazy or random as it may seem.Tama actually has two very important things going for her,one of which is a direct connection to Ace,which in turn, provides a very direct connection to Luffy. And Tama is actually quite similar to Luffy in that,as a child, although she actually is a child to this day,but as a smaller child she begged to join the Spade Piratewhen Ace visited Wano,in much the same way that Luffywanted to join the Red Hair Pirates. And Ace, just like Shanks, rejected Tama but he did promise, and that is an important word here,Ace promised that they would meet again one dayand allow her to join his crew after becoming a kunoichi.A bewitching kunoicihi to be precise. But it very strongly seeds the idea of Tamawanting to travel outside of Wano. And they, desire for travel for whatever reason it may be,is a key factor of any member joining the Straw Hats.Furthermore, Tama, apart from the Rock on Rusukaina,is currently the only character post time skipto have worn Luffy's trademark Straw Hat,which has been used as a foreshadowing device in the past.Very specifically with Robin, who took the hat and put in on,in much the same way that she more or less forced her wayonto the crew eventually. So there's definitely an argument to be made here for Tama, although there are definitely problems. The first of which being that Tama is only 8 years old.And while it's not unprecedented for kids around that ageto be roaming the New World, like say Buggy, Shanks and Blackbeard,it is still very difficult to pictureone becoming a Straw Hat.And furthermore, even if we invest heavily into the ideaof Ace's promise and Luffy being the vehicleto fulfills that promise,Tama still has yet to uphold her end of that bargain. She is not a kunoichi quite yet,and thus, in my mind, cannot set sail.Because that's how One Piece is.Characters like Tama keep their wordand as such, I think that her adventurewill occur long after the Straw Hatshave concluded their various piecesof business in One Piece. So now let's move on to two much stronger candidates, either of whom could quite easily hop aboardand the first of which is nowthe classically speculated, Carrot. And she is a good candidatefor almost every reason imaginable. Now one key thing that Carrot possess, which Tama currently does not,is a more specifically defined dream or goal.Straw Hat crew members are inseparable from this concept. They can't just aboard the ship for a good time, they're here to pursue their own desires,in addition to making Luffy the Pirate King. And Carrot's desire, currently, would be fulfillingthe inherited will of Pedro. The jaguar mink who very boldly proclaimedthat it was the Straw Hats who would bringabout the dawn of the world,a very vaguely defined conceptthat it is important to both the mink tribe and kozuki clan.So naturally, to achieve such a thing,it makes all the sense in the world to join the crew, especially since Carrot has a demonstrable roleaboard the ship, being a lookout. One of the very few classicallypiratey positions left available. And stick in another box,Carrot also comes equipped with her own tragic flashback, only it played out in real time with Pedroon Whole Cake Island. And really, there is only one thingthat holds me back from being super certainabout Carrot and it's all down to her relevance on Wano, which has been close to zero. This wouldn't be an issue if she was already a crew memberbut leading up to a massive momentlike, say, joining the Straw Hats, the character in question tendsto be quite hyper focused on.Otherwise, I imagine that the eventual momentof joining would have very little dramatic impactand minimal satisfaction attached to it.So in my mind, something very major needs to happenon Wano to give Carrot this final pushand whilst it's not impossible, the longer this arc continues, the less likely that's looking. However, I will admit that the overwhelmingpossibility does still exists. However, there just so happens to be anothercharacter though, whose chances I would,in all seriousness, put as equal to,if not greater than that of Carrot. But I do need to put in a spoiler warningfor anime only watchers because crazily enough, this character has not yet been introduced to you.And the way things are going, they probably won't be for a very, very long time.So if you're not keen on some of the old spoilers, then please do skip to this timebut for everyone else, here we go.And yes, it's obviously Yamato. So obvious that I have made a fairly recent videodetailing this possibility alone. So as a result, I'm not going to dive into itquite as deeply here. But Yamato is pretty on the roadto brute forcing his way into becoming a Straw Hat member, kind of like how Oden had to practicallybrute force his way onto Whitebeard ship.Yamato has the innate desire for adventure and explorationthat both Carrot and Tama have, but also a dream to fulfill with an inherited willin regards to Kozuki Oden. And given how intrinsically linkedOden is to just about everything in One Piece,be it Roger, Whitebeard, Joy Boy,and even the void century through Toki,it's difficult to imagine someone so directly investedin the idea of being Oden, not becoming wildly important in the endgame of One Piece. And Yamato probably cannot inhabit that role of importanceby remaining on Wano.So I do honestly believe that Yamatois a pretty shockingly reasonable candidateto be our final crew memberand if you want a more in depth argument as for why, then please do check out my videolink in the description. But now let's also address some potential issuesthat may derail the whole final crew memberbeing sought idea. The first of which is that we alreadyhave this potential 10th crew member,we just don't have her aboard at the moment, who is, of course, Nefertari Vivi.Information about Vivi is a bit more vague though, and according to her Vivi card datebook entry, she was considered a Straw Hatand is now considered a former Straw Hat.And Oda has also said that her trademark numberif joining the crew it would be 5.5,indicating that she slots in between Chopper and Robinin terms of joining order. Now this isn't to say things won't change in the future, especially since Vivi is now much more relevant than ever, having been seemingly targeted so specifically by Im.So yeah, maybe there is a world where Vividoes rejoin the Straw Hats for a final climactic saga, thus filling this seemingly empty slot.Which is an idea that, quite honestly, I don't mind.I just don't quite see it as anywhere nearas likely as the other options. And some people out there might also attribute some spotsto the Going Merry and the Thousand Sunnybut obviously they don't count in the numbering,so sorry Merry and sorry Sunny. And finally, just because I know at least one personis going to bring this up in the comments,in the Viz English translation,Luffy specifically mentions that he wants at least 10 men, which the literalists out there would taketo exclude Nami and Robin. However in reality, this is just the natureof early Viz translations.English One Piece is kind of cringy to readfor the first few volumesbecause they really hype up the piratey languagesaying things like "Me hearties," and "Grog"and all of that stereotypical crap. And this line is victim of that.So just imagine Luffy saying it with a piratey voice."Yaaaar, first thing's first.I've got to get a crew.I think about 10 men should do."Whereas in Japanese, there is no gender specified. It's just a wash of crappy WesternizedEnglish pirate stereotypical languageand not to be taken seriously whatsoever. But there we go.Some interesting food for thought.I, for one, am really glad that One Piece magazinewent so far as to make that distinction clearbecause it is something that I've been arguingon both sides for as long as I've been reading this seriesand it does generate some pretty great excitementfor our 10th and final Straw Hat,now confirmed to be not including Luffy. But <text sub="clublinks" start="280.09" dur="1.27">when Ace visited Wano,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="281.36" dur="1.23">in much the same way that Luffy</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="282.59" dur="1.64">wanted to join the Red Hair Pirates.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="284.23" dur="3.41">And Ace, just like Shanks, rejected Tama but he did promise,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="287.64" dur="1.71">and that is an important word here,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="289.35" dur="2.53">Ace promised that they would meet again one day</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="291.88" dur="2.92">and allow her to join his crew after becoming a kunoichi.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="294.8" dur="2.05">A bewitching kunoicihi to be precise.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="296.85" dur="2.07">But it very strongly seeds the idea of Tama</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="298.92" dur="1.79">wanting to travel outside of Wano.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="300.71" dur="2.74">And they, desire for travel for whatever reason it may be,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="303.45" dur="2.87">is a key factor of any member joining the Straw Hats.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="306.32" dur="2.92">Furthermore, Tama, apart from the Rock on Rusukaina,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="309.24" dur="2">is currently the only character post time skip</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="311.24" dur="2.25">to have worn Luffy's trademark Straw Hat,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="313.49" dur="2.78">which has been used as a foreshadowing device in the past.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="316.27" dur="1.31">Very specifically with Robin,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="317.58" dur="1.54">who took the hat and put in on,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="319.12" dur="2.72">in much the same way that she more or less forced her way</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="321.84" dur="1.22">onto the crew eventually.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="323.06" dur="2.86">So there's definitely an argument to be made here for Tama,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="325.92" dur="1.66">although there are definitely problems.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="327.58" dur="2.78">The first of which being that Tama is only 8 years old.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="330.36" dur="2.52">And while it's not unprecedented for kids around that age</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="332.88" dur="1.17">to be roaming the New World,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="334.05" dur="1.97">like say Buggy, Shanks and Blackbeard,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="336.02" dur="1.63">it is still very difficult to picture</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="337.65" dur="1.32">one becoming a Straw Hat.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="338.97" dur="2.71">And furthermore, even if we invest heavily into the idea</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="341.68" dur="2.07">of Ace's promise and Luffy being the vehicle</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="343.75" dur="1.21">to fulfills that promise,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="344.96" dur="2.71">Tama still has yet to uphold her end of that bargain.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="347.67" dur="1.67">She is not a kunoichi quite yet,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="349.34" dur="2.07">and thus, in my mind, cannot set sail.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="351.41" dur="1.69">Because that's how One Piece is.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="353.1" dur="1.83">Characters like Tama keep their word</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="354.93" dur="1.73">and as such, I think that her adventure</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="356.66" dur="1.82">will occur long after the Straw Hats</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="358.48" dur="1.73">have concluded their various pieces</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="360.21" dur="1.31">of business in One Piece.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="361.52" dur="2.53">So now let's move on to two much stronger candidates,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="364.05" dur="2.49">either of whom could quite easily hop aboard</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="366.54" dur="1.18">and the first of which is now</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="367.72" dur="1.85">the classically speculated, Carrot.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="369.57" dur="1.24">And she is a good candidate</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="370.81" dur="1.97">for almost every reason imaginable.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="372.78" dur="1.74">Now one key thing that Carrot possess,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="374.52" dur="1.69">which Tama currently does not,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="376.21" dur="2.66">is a more specifically defined dream or goal.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="378.87" dur="2.8">Straw Hat crew members are inseparable from this concept.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="381.67" dur="2.12">They can't just aboard the ship for a good time,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="383.79" dur="1.81">they're here to pursue their own desires,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="385.6" dur="2.16">in addition to making Luffy the Pirate King.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="387.76" dur="2.24">And Carrot's desire, currently, would be fulfilling</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="390" dur="1.63">the inherited will of Pedro.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="391.63" dur="2.25">The jaguar mink who very boldly proclaimed</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="393.88" dur="1.48">that it was the Straw Hats who would bring</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="395.36" dur="1.56">about the dawn of the world,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="396.92" dur="2.03">a very vaguely defined concept</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="398.95" dur="2.92">that it is important to both the mink tribe and kozuki clan.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="401.87" dur="1.55">So naturally, to achieve such a thing,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="403.42" dur="2.03">it makes all the sense in the world to join the crew,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="405.45" dur="2.52">especially since Carrot has a demonstrable role</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="407.97" dur="1.42">aboard the ship, being a lookout.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="409.39" dur="1.696">One of the very few classically</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="411.086" dur="1.564">piratey positions left available.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="412.65" dur="0.98">And stick in another box,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="413.63" dur="2.79">Carrot also comes equipped with her own tragic flashback,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="416.42" dur="2.01">only it played out in real time with Pedro</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="418.43" dur="1.04">on Whole Cake Island.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="419.47" dur="1.37">And really, there is only one thing</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="420.84" dur="1.91">that holds me back from being super certain</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="422.75" dur="2.86">about Carrot and it's all down to her relevance on Wano,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="425.61" dur="2.14">which has been close to zero.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="427.75" dur="2.21">This wouldn't be an issue if she was already a crew member</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="429.96" dur="1.9">but leading up to a massive moment</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="431.86" dur="1.64">like, say, joining the Straw Hats,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="433.5" dur="1.41">the character in question tends</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="434.91" dur="1.5">to be quite hyper focused on.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="436.41" dur="2.01">Otherwise, I imagine that the eventual moment</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="438.42" dur="1.97">of joining would have very little dramatic impact</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="440.39" dur="2.27">and minimal satisfaction attached to it.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="442.66" dur="2.95">So in my mind, something very major needs to happen</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="445.61" dur="2.3">on Wano to give Carrot this final push</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="447.91" dur="1.49">and whilst it's not impossible,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="449.4" dur="1.66">the longer this arc continues,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="451.06" dur="1.56">the less likely that's looking.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="452.62" dur="1.79">However, I will admit that the overwhelming</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="454.41" dur="2.33">possibility does still exists.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="456.74" dur="2.85">However, there just so happens to be another</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="459.59" dur="2.07">character though, whose chances I would,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="461.66" dur="2.32">in all seriousness, put as equal to,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="463.98" dur="1.96">if not greater than that of Carrot.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="465.94" dur="1.57">But I do need to put in a spoiler warning</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="467.51" dur="2.58">for anime only watchers because crazily enough,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="470.09" dur="2.497">this character has not yet been introduced to you.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="472.587" dur="1.383">And the way things are going,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="473.97" dur="2.87">they probably won't be for a very, very long time.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="476.84" dur="2.01">So if you're not keen on some of the old spoilers,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="478.85" dur="1.43">then please do skip to this time</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="480.28" dur="2.99">but for everyone else, here we go.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="483.27" dur="1.77">And yes, it's obviously Yamato.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="485.04" dur="2.18">So obvious that I have made a fairly recent video</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="487.22" dur="1.92">detailing this possibility alone.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="489.14" dur="1.94">So as a result, I'm not going to dive into it</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="491.08" dur="1.41">quite as deeply here.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="492.49" dur="2.14">But Yamato is pretty on the road</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="494.63" dur="2.66">to brute forcing his way into becoming a Straw Hat member,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="497.29" dur="1.73">kind of like how Oden had to practically</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="499.02" dur="1.87">brute force his way onto Whitebeard ship.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="500.89" dur="2.87">Yamato has the innate desire for adventure and exploration</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="503.76" dur="1.47">that both Carrot and Tama have,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="505.23" dur="2.31">but also a dream to fulfill with an inherited will</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="507.54" dur="1.63">in regards to Kozuki Oden.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="509.17" dur="1.88">And given how intrinsically linked</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="511.05" dur="2.7">Oden is to just about everything in One Piece,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="513.75" dur="1.97">be it Roger, Whitebeard, Joy Boy,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="515.72" dur="2.21">and even the void century through Toki,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="517.93" dur="3.05">it's difficult to imagine someone so directly invested</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="520.98" dur="1.51">in the idea of being Oden,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="522.49" dur="3.46">not becoming wildly important in the endgame of One Piece.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="525.95" dur="3.21">And Yamato probably cannot inhabit that role of importance</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="529.16" dur="1.25">by remaining on Wano.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="530.41" dur="1.72">So I do honestly believe that Yamato</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="532.13" dur="2.39">is a pretty shockingly reasonable candidate</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="534.52" dur="1.28">to be our final crew member</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="535.8" dur="2.25">and if you want a more in depth argument as for why,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="538.05" dur="1.68">then please do check out my video</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="539.73" dur="1.49">link in the description.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="541.22" dur="2.19">But now let's also address some potential issues</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="543.41" dur="2.25">that may derail the whole final crew member</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="545.66" dur="1.01">being sought idea.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="546.67" dur="1.6">The first of which is that we already</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="548.27" dur="1.73">have this potential 10th crew member,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="550" dur="2.29">we just don't have her aboard at the moment,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="552.29" dur="1.54">who is, of course, Nefertari Vivi.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="553.83" dur="2.25">Information about Vivi is a bit more vague though,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="556.08" dur="2.12">and according to her Vivi card datebook entry,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="558.2" dur="1.85">she was considered a Straw Hat</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="560.05" dur="2.36">and is now considered a former Straw Hat.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="562.41" dur="1.79">And Oda has also said that her trademark number</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="564.2" dur="2.06">if joining the crew it would be 5.5,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="566.26" dur="2.68">indicating that she slots in between Chopper and Robin</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="568.94" dur="1.42">in terms of joining order.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="570.36" dur="2.48">Now this isn't to say things won't change in the future,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="572.84" dur="2.89">especially since Vivi is now much more relevant than ever,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="575.73" dur="3.21">having been seemingly targeted so specifically by Im.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="578.94" dur="1.76">So yeah, maybe there is a world where Vivi</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="580.7" dur="3.2">does rejoin the Straw Hats for a final climactic saga,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="583.9" dur="2.03">thus filling this seemingly empty slot.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="585.93" dur="2.38">Which is an idea that, quite honestly, I don't mind.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="588.31" dur="2.3">I just don't quite see it as anywhere near</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="590.61" dur="1.62">as likely as the other options.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="592.23" dur="2.39">And some people out there might also attribute some spots</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="594.62" dur="1.91">to the Going Merry and the Thousand Sunny</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="596.53" dur="2.14">but obviously they don't count in the numbering,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="598.67" dur="2.19">so sorry Merry and sorry Sunny.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="600.86" dur="2.44">And finally, just because I know at least one person</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="603.3" dur="1.59">is going to bring this up in the comments,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="604.89" dur="1.55">in the Viz English translation,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="606.44" dur="3.16">Luffy specifically mentions that he wants at least 10 men,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="609.6" dur="1.83">which the literalists out there would take</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="611.43" dur="1.45">to exclude Nami and Robin.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="612.88" dur="1.98">However in reality, this is just the nature</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="614.86" dur="1.55">of early Viz translations.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="616.41" dur="2.37">English One Piece is kind of cringy to read</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="618.78" dur="1.12">for the first few volumes</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="619.9" dur="2.52">because they really hype up the piratey language</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="622.42" dur="2.37">saying things like "Me hearties," and "Grog"</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="624.79" dur="1.82">and all of that stereotypical crap.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="626.61" dur="1.64">And this line is victim of that.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="628.25" dur="2.467">So just imagine Luffy saying it with a piratey voice.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="630.717" dur="1.873">"Yaaaar, first thing's first.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="632.59" dur="1.41">I've got to get a crew.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="634" dur="2.89">I think about 10 men should do."</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="636.89" dur="2.66">Whereas in Japanese, there is no gender specified.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="639.55" dur="2.49">It's just a wash of crappy Westernized</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="642.04" dur="1.8">English pirate stereotypical language</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="643.84" dur="2.69">and not to be taken seriously whatsoever.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="646.53" dur="1.25">But there we go.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="647.78" dur="1.51">Some interesting food for thought.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="649.29" dur="2.02">I, for one, am really glad that One Piece magazine</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="651.31" dur="1.823">went so far as to make that distinction clear</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="653.133" dur="2.087">because it is something that I've been arguing</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="655.22" dur="2.75">on both sides for as long as I've been reading this series</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="657.97" dur="2.53">and it does generate some pretty great excitement</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="660.5" dur="2.17">for our 10th and final Straw Hat,</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="662.67" dur="2.93">now confirmed to be not including Luffy.</text>
<text sub="clublinks" start="665.6" dur="0.93">But what do you guys think?</text>
